September 3, 1987 Pine Mountain Lake, California -- Stanislaus Complex Fire -- Fire Captain Mike Lanier gives instructions to "on call" Stanislaus National Forest wildland crew before creating backfire to protect Pine Mountain Lake community. The Stanislaus Complex Fire consumed 28 structures and 145,980 acres. One US Forest Service firefighter, David Ross Erickson, died from a tree-felling accident.
