Modesto, California, June, 1975.80-year old Jess Tharp had been making and repairing saddles since 1922. He change careers from full time cowboy to working in a saddletree shop in Utah after he returned from World War I. In Jess's south Modesto shop he restored a saddle mad by Main & Winchester of San Francisco in the 1880s.
