September 3, 1987 Pine Mountain Lake, California -- Stanislaus Complex Fire -- Stanislaus National Forest firefighter faces away from fire to avoid heat. He will watch the non-burning side for spot fires and then put them out quickly to prevent fire climbing the hill. The Stanislaus Complex Fire consumed 28 structures and 145,980 acres. One US Forest Service firefighter, David Ross Erickson, died from a tree-felling accident.
