September 15, 1990 Tuolumne City, California -- Cottonwood Fire -- Stanislaus Hotshot sawyer Rob Laeng pauses before he and his crew head down to make sure the Hacienda fuel break is holding. The Cottonwood Fire was held to 2,000 acres by the fast action of fire crews. The fire threatened several small communities. The big challenge was to make sure the fire didn’t get past the Hacienda fuel break, keeping the fire out of the Tuolumne River.
